Computer and internet

Southport State School uses information and communication technologies to enhance and broaden the learning experiences of the students and teachers. Through integration and skills training students will learn how to use ICTs in their everyday lives to improve their productivity and ability to locate and use information.

The school will build an environment that sustains and supports computers in the classroom and across all curriculum areas through an integrated approach to planning. Southport State School will provide opportunity and support for students and teachers who wish to apply their skills to further positive school and community relationships through ICT projects.

Southport State School will incorporate eLearning strategies to engage and empower all learners,

preparing them to become digitally literate, flexible and socially aware of their future with the skills to contribute responsibly as members of a global eCommunity.

All classes at Southport State School are able to access the internet. Interactive Smart Boards are utilised in many of the classrooms. Smart tables are used in the junior classrooms.

Cybersafety and cyberbullying

Parents and carers can access information on cyberbullying and cybersafety or inappropriate online behaviour in a school context. The internet, mobile phones and instant messaging provide wonderful opportunities for children to learn, be creative and socialise online. They also provide opportunities for inappropriate behaviour, bullying and harassment to occur - causing pain and suffering to the targets of such behaviour.

The Learning Place

Southport State school uses The Learning Place as a valuable online learning environment for our students. The Learning Place is a valuable online learning environment for discovering, connecting, sharing and growing new ideas and knowledge. Many year levels at Southport State School use EdStudios as an aide to the delivery of the curriculum. EdStudios are a useful tool, as students are able to access information from home. Children can access The Learning Place directly from this website using their school username and password.
