Our school offers many sporting
opportunities for students in sport.
well as weekly physical education lessons students in year 4-6 are involved in
a variety of co-curricular sporting programs and competitions including
inter-house carnivals and intra-school Friday afternoon sport. They also have
access to a variety of developmental programs including our Touch Football
for high achieving students in sport have access to district, regional, state
and national representation through QLD School Sport.
Touch Football Academy:
The Southport State School Touch Football
Academy is a developmental program designed to build students skills and
increase participation in sport.
Touch Football is offered as an elective sport
on Friday afternoons in Term 2 and 4, to students in grade 4, 5 and 6, as part
of the school intra-schools competition.
Students that display genuine interest in Touch
Football are then invited to participate in additional training sessions. This
sessions are run after school on Thursdays 3-4pm and at lunch times, with a
boys verse girls game on Friday lunch times.
Students are chosen from the Touch Academy to
represent Southport State School in the Gold Coast and QLD All Schools
Competition in Brisbane in November. These students receive additional training
sessions to develop their team skills and prepare for the competition.
Prep to Year 3 students develop sporting
skills, balance and co-ordination through Physical Education lessons with a
specialist teacher. They also participate in a junior athletics carnival and
modified cross-country event. Learn to Swim lessons are also offered.
