Touch Football Academy:
The Southport State School Touch Football Academy is a developmental program designed to build students skills and increase participation in sport.
Touch Football is offered as an elective sport on Friday afternoons in Term 2 and 4, to students in grade 4, 5 and 6, as part of the school intra-schools competition.
Students that display genuine interest in Touch Football are then invited to participate in additional training sessions. This sessions are run after school on Thursdays 3-4pm and at lunch times, with a boys verse girls game on Friday lunch times.
Students are chosen from the Touch Academy to represent Southport State School in the Gold Coast and QLD All Schools Competition in Brisbane in November. These students receive additional training sessions to develop their team skills and prepare for the competition.
Prep to Year 3 students develop sporting skills, balance and co-ordination through Physical Education lessons with a specialist teacher. They also participate in a junior athletics carnival and modified cross-country event. Learn to Swim lessons are also offered.
